The dreamer

Ramblings and flights of a dreamer.

I'm Liz(a). I take each day by the hour. I'm 22 years young, and I live in Texas. I like to share, create & capture things. I may not know where I'll be next year (or even in five years), but life is unexpected, and I prefer spontaneity. »

Dust in the wind

You probably recognize this theme from Seek Liza, which is now unfortunately a spam site (I refuse to link it because that just gives them what would have been my traffic, ya know?). I decided to go back to using it because I really did love it then, and I still love it now. The site name (6birds, ONE word) looks a bit odd with this theme, but I don’t really care. 6sticks was the first theme I actually tried out a full-blown dynamic sidebar on, and it actually got on my nerves in some places1.

I’ve also grown a bit tired of how I made the links a dark grey and bold, and the actual strong/bold a different color, closer to red, because I kept getting confused because it seemed like it should have been the other way around. In the end, I did learn how to do a couple new things that I hadn’t known how to do previously, which was my intention.

Aside from being annoyed with my own creation, this one is blue (yay!), and it feels warm and cozy. Although I’m into using a lot of symbolism in my writing, I can’t say that the symbolic meaning of blue is why I like blue.

Other reasons I’m back to this theme include, but do not limit to:

  • I wanted a theme that was a bit wider than ~600px or so for the content container (or did I have it on 500px?)
  • I wanted a prettier sidebar
  • I really like the font that was used
  • I paid for it. No one else could ever get one exactly like mine unless Georgie makes them one (and I paid for mine, so. ~)
  • It’s nice, clean, minimal and doesn’t have a lot of distractions, if any.
  • I want to use it
  • I can use it

So… yeah. I’m also going to be working on dehlu.org2.

…and I’m going to be working on Hope Fades (which is going before dehlu.org as far as the priorities go), as it was supposed to be completed by January of this year.

  1. One would be on searches, another on specific categories, and so on.
  2. I’ve decided to buy a domain with my name or the .nu one I really want (because this one goes well with my blog and it’s just PERFECT.) in the near future when I can afford to purchase one, because let’s face it: No one knows how to pronounce “dehlu”. I just assume it’s “duh-loo”, like the sound of “d” plus “l”, which equals “dl”, which still sounds awkward to say because it sounds too much like I’m from the south (yeah, yeah, I think Texas is as south as I can get). Therefore, I try really hard to not have to say it. I just don’t have anything else to use for my collective or anything.

I also liked this theme a lot. I like wider themes which you can see on my own blog.. I can’t understand why people want to keep the content areas so narrow. I like how the content gets the focus with a wider content area. My sister says she is too lazy to move her eyes so much when she reads a blog and that’s why she likes it narrower, lol! But yeah, this theme is brilliant, and I can relate to your argument that you paid for it. I also use a few themes for that reason, on other blogs (I have a music blog, and a Swedish blog where I list places to eat that are coeliac friendly). While those themes are really nice, I prefer the one I use now for my personal blog.

You’re right.. This theme does feel more warm and cozy to me. What a great choice of color. Blue is beautiful. I’m in love with pink, but besides pink, my secondary color is blue.

Good luck with your new domain Liza! I’ve never thought about purchasing a domain with .nu. I’ve only ever purchased domains with .com and .net — I didn’t like the .net after I purchased it. It didn’t stay up for long because I never renewed the hosting plan, lol.

Have fun! :D

I haven’t purchased a new domain in a while. Funny, I don’t really like the .com extension! Haha, I think it’s all really just a personal choice. :p

Ah, this definitely looks familiar! Nothing wrong with going back to a previous theme if it still works well and looks good :) I liked this one!

I love this theme Liza much better then the other. Of course blue is my favorite color, any shade really as you probably could tell from my blog as well. I do like the lighter softer shade though, really pretty.

You did very good with this one. As long as you like it though that’s all that really matters.

Thanks. :) I actually didn’t make it, though. Last year I paid and worked with Georgie on a theme for a domain name that is now expired and retired. I loved it so much then, though, so I had to bring it back. :3

Hey Liz! Or should I call you Liza now? :)
Yeah, I’ve stopped working on the comic (which I’ve probably scrapped and started over plenty of times already), since I don’t have enough time anymore.

I really like how wide and unrestricted this theme is. The blue is also a really nice and relaxing shade, and I love how the post info is in the sidebar. :D

@Diane,

Hi! :D Either works, really. :)

I remember, because I commented the blog where you discussed it. :p It was still interesting, though. :)

I also like this theme a lot! It is just like Georgie. You know, have you ever thought of typing the site title as “Six Birds” instead? I wonder if it’ll look nicer that way.

And if there’s anything I learned in my literature classes in high school, I learned that symbols can mean a lot of things, and you can define a symbol to represent whatever you like in your own writing. So feel free to make up a new symbol for the color blue! As long as you explain why well enough, we’ll all catch on. :D

Liza on 22nd January 2013 at 2:05 am

D; It’s not “Six Birds”, though. It’s the number, 6. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s one of those things I can’t do because it wouldn’t feel right; it’d feel weird and off.
